Although spelling variety has existed in Greek since the antiquity, it recently has gained wider dimensions after the publication of certain Modern Greek dictionaries. In this article we aim at presenting the spelling choices of the two most recent dictionaries of Modern Greek, by comparing them with two earlier popular dictionaries. This comparison of dictionaries is made in the light of the rules of school grammar, which regulates the spelling of education and administration. We also present our conclusions and concerns stemming from the analysis of spelling choices of the dictionaries studied, as well as suggest solutions to the problem.
