Χρυσούλα Καραντζή: Οι σύνθετες λέξεις στις νεοελληνικές διαλέκτους και τη λογοτεχνία

This paper discusses the use of compounds in Modern Greek dialects and compares this use to their function in literature. Compounding in Greek is thus analyzed in terms of both dialectology and stylistics. Morphological data are studied in literary vs. non-literary texts in order to argue that the study of both dialects and literature can offer the means for broader accounts of theoretical issues in morphology. Here we bring forward the agenda of related issues for a full analysis of compounding in these varieties of Greek. Large-scale research projects are clearly necessary, involving both dialectal and literary databases, as well as the statistical analysis of findings before any clearer conclusions are drawn.
